Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any educational requirements or prerequisites required to attend the training?

Nope! The idea behind Trauma Coaching is to expand the number of people around the world who can safely and effectively support trauma survivors. There will never be enough mental health professionals to meet the growing demand for care.

This course was designed to help increase access to people who have solid training in the area of trauma, allowing mental health care providers and other kinds of professionals to shift some of their tasks to coaches. The only requirements are that participants are able to speak and understand English, have a desire to help and a willingness to learn!

So, who would be appropriate for one of these trips?

-Holistic health care providers, massage therapists, physicians, mental health therapists, organizational leaders, life coaches, and more! Basically anyone who is interested in including coaching in their organization, who wants to build a coaching business, or who wants to learn more about trauma.

-Someone who enjoys travel

-Someone who can tolerate the associated challenges of travel

-Someone who wants to expand their cultural lens to be inclusive of other perspectives on mental health

-Our coaching courses were designed for anyone with a drive to help and a willingness to learn!

Is it safe to travel in the areas where your training is hosted?

Yes! Our logistics partner (Global Engagement Institute) is an expert in providing support in the areas where we travel. Additionally, our locations are carefully chosen in effort to address needs of those who reside in the countries that host our retreats while simultaneously providing you with a rich and robust learning experience.

What kind of person would be a good candidate to attend one of these retreat-style courses?

Our retreat-style courses are extremely unique. They are designed to offer a multicultural learning experience while simultaneously building capacity to support survivors in parts of the world that have less access. An added bonus is that we are simultaneously expanding capacity and enriching our care delivery in developed parts of the world by hosting international delegations like these.

Will I be certified as a trauma coach after I attend the training?

There are additional requirements that go beyond the trauma coaching course content. In order to receive the full certification, you must read Trauma Stewardship and respond to posts in our student community about the book. You must also complete 50 hours of coaching practice.

However, if you do not view the certification as necessary, you will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the trip.
